Checking Gun Barrels Chambers with Cerrosafe
CERROSAFE« is unique and is the best alloy for checking gun barrel chambers because of its features. Other alloys can actually expand upon solidification, which would make them unable to be removed from the gun chamber.

CERROSAFE« shrinks during the first 30 minutes of cooling and is removed at this time and allowed to cool for a total of one hour.
Now it is the EXACT size of the gun barrel chamber and can be measured. CERROSAFE« will continue to expand at the rate of .0025 inches in 200 hours.

CERROSAFE« can be melted in a double boiler. Other methods can be used but the double boiler is the safest way since overheating can destroy this alloy. The melting temperature is 158║ F - 190║ F. Once liquid, the alloy can be poured into a lightly oiled (non-detergent) gun chamber that has been plugged ahead of the throat. Pouring with the barrel slightly tilted is best. This will avoid air bubbles. The barrel chamber should be at room temperature or slightly warmer.

Once the casting has cooled enough to handle and within 30 minutes it can be removed using a dowel rod. Allow the casting to cool for a total of one hour before measuring.
